A Word From Altered Image's Owner.
Body Piercing should be treated as any surgical procedure. You can expect the area to be pink, sore to the touch, and a sticky material draining from it. This is all normal. The area will stay pinkish in color and may be slightly dry for a few weeks. Drainage will carry on for about 6 to 8 weeks. Every person is different, so don't compare yourself to how someone else's piercing healed!
If your going to get a piercing, don't go out and drink afterward! No Drinking Before Either..! Drinking Alcohol can cause harm to a fresh piercing. Alcohol thins the blood, so it will cause the pierced area to bleed much more, causing severe inflammation and swelling, which could cause an infection.
- Keep any kind of chemical substance away from your fresh piercing, "Especially Cartilage Piercings". If you wear gels or hairsprays cover your ear with a baggie before applying.
- Change your pillow case every other night! Do Not sleep on the same side 2 nights in a row, if any discharge from a fresh piercing gets rubbed into your piercing, it then turns into a major infection that could require a hospital visit.
- Cartilege Piercings can get easily infected from any number of things such as, airbourne contaminants like Dog & Cat Allergens, Pollen, Dust Mites, ect.
- So think hard before you get a piercing and ask yourself this question: Can I handle the responsibility of taking care of a body piercing?
